The new year does not begin alone. You do not cross that threshold by yourself. You walk with the ones who came before you—the ones who survived, who resisted, who dreamed of your freedom even when they could not taste their own. They are with you. They are guiding you. They are the light that illuminates your path forward.

This design captures that sacred relationship between past and future, between ancestor and descendant, between the ones who paved the way and the ones who walk it now. At the center, a figure sits in reverence at an ancestral altar, hands raised in gratitude and connection. Above them, three glowing ancestral figures ascend, their forms dissolving into stars and light, showing us that those who leave the physical realm become the spiritual guides who never leave our side.

Traditional African masks frame the design, representing the faces of lineage, the guardians of wisdom, and the protectors of those who remember. The Sankofa bird—the symbol of returning to retrieve what was lost—reminds us that we must look back to move forward. Candles, offerings, and sacred geometry connect the earthly and spiritual realms, showing that the veil between worlds is thin for those who honor it.

The text, "The Ones Who Guide Us Forward," is bold and reverent, framed by Adinkra symbols for wisdom (Nyansapo - wisdom knot), guidance (Nea Onnim - he who does not know can know from learning), and continuity (Nkyinkyim - life's journey).

This is not just a shirt for January 1st. This is a wearable altar. A reminder that you are never alone. That the wisdom you need is already within you, passed down through blood and bone and breath. That the new year is not about starting over—it's about continuing the work your ancestors began.

FAQs

Cimarron honors the legacy of those who chose liberation over bondage—people who escaped, resisted, and built new worlds rooted in ancestral memory. Our name is a tribute to freedom seekers and the spirit of self-determination that guides our work.

Our garments are not just clothing—they are wearable altars. Every piece carries symbolism drawn from African and Afro-Indigenous traditions, intentionally designed to awaken memory, honor lineage, and protect the spirit. We center community, empowerment, and ancestral storytelling in everything we create.

Yes. All Cimarron garments are created for all genders and all journeys. Liberation has no boundaries—and neither does our clothing.

Each design emerges from the duality of movement and stillness, resistance and rest. We draw inspiration from traditional symbols, liberation stories, ancestral ceremonies, and the lived experiences of Afro-diasporic communities across the world.
